About Us
Blackheart Bagels is a wholesale bakery providing bagels to cafes, restaurants and grocery stores. We don't currently have a retail location. The company was formed in January of 2012 by Bethany Venooker with the invaluable help of her friends Jennifer & Jill Wanagel. Funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign, our first venture was the Buckman Farmer's Market. We made tasty sandwiches and drinks. I think you would have liked it.
About Bethany Venooker {Baker & Owner}
I’m a half Jewish woman from Upstate New York, which almost makes me a credible bagel expert. I moved to Portland in 2009 and missed genuine boiled bagels more than anything else. Fueled by a questionable internet recipe and ingredients from the corner store I finally tried making my own. I fell in love with bageling. I baked a dozen every week for three years. I researched, tested and modified my recipe and methods until I finally made something that reminded me of home. Then I made Blackheart. I roll, boil and bake every single bagel seven days a week.
